Gondola Hash-Run Number 6 (home) 09.01.2010

Hasher upon Hasher piled into the Suzhou Bookworm in the Pinjiang Historic district. The Bookworm staff were a bit surprised by the numbers as their place filled up and Hashers spilled out over onto their porch and down the stairs. The Gondola Hash was the largest yet in Suzhou with a total of 40 hashers participating. Not counting the two children smuggled into the Adult Hash. Funnily enough nobody admitted to having invited them or how they got there, but as their mothers found out the hard way, this was not a Hash for the little ones! The Wuxi H3 was out in great numbers and at the pre-hash circle Wuxi HashFlash P-grapher was presented with a special running outfit in honor of the first Run of the new year. It was attached to him personally by Agatha and Mary of Sausage Fame and he wore it gamely throughout the Run, to the great amusement of many Suzhou denizens. (See photos). Agatha was also singled out in the pre-run circle and as it was his birthday, he was given presents befitting his age and status in the Suzhou Hash. Footrot joined in with some good-luck skin-tight bright red running boxers for him, which Agatha was even able to fit on over his running shorts. Though he had helped set a dead hare trail for the Gondola Hash, maybe he was afraid it could end up being another one of those Live Hare Hashes where an extra pair of shorts might come in handy? Hard to say….The trail went through some of the most picturesque parts of old town Suzhou, along canals, over ancient bridges, through cobblestone alleys. The weather was sunny and warm, and cries of On-On filled the air. One of the Hares went with the knitting circle and the illicit children to sweep up, and another took care to ensure the Hash cooler got to the right location for the post-Run circle. The third, however, was unable to resist the charms of Mary of Sausage Fame. He found himself compelled to try to keep up with as she flew along, causing all of the less swift ‘real’ runners to miss a crucial turn-off that would have sent them over the grand Canal and through the silk museum. Instead, they all ended up on the snail trail wondering how the Run had ended up so short! Needless to say, Agatha was punished for this infraction in the circle.

Memorable Hash moments;

Footrot and the Wuxi Hashers presented the Suzhou H3 with the P. of the Month. Mary of Sausage Fame was, of course, the first recipient.

Does the ‘sing Father Abraham on an Ancient Bridge count?

How did the Hash Van get lost with all of Tiny Tim’s naming gear forcing the less than pleased Religious Advisor to put off the naming ceremony until the Bash.

The first to wear the new naming gear was MaterKater, in a touching ceremony,  surrounded by Indian murals.

We call on the French to sing us a song!

Hash verdict: Great trail and lots of new toys for the Suzhou H3!
