Lion’s Grove Garden is one of the four most popular gardens in Suzhou. It is commonly regarded as the Kingdom of Rockery and its rockery labyrinth is the only one of its kind in Suzhou. The garden itself got its name from the Buddhist scriptures and has a history of more than 650 years. It’s located on Yuanlin Lu on the east side of the city. The southeast side of the garden is covered in rockery mazes and the northwest side of the garden has ponds and pools and a stone boat teahouse. The garden is surrounded by a high wall and is filled with winding corridors. The garden is centered on the main pond, the garden is very compact with rockery, building, flowers, trees, bridges and pavilions. It’s rich in classic garden structured buildings as well as stunning rockery. The main building inside the garden is Yanyu Hall. To the west there is a two-story building called Zhibai Xuan. To the west of the Zhibai Xuan is Five Pine Garden and then Lotus Hall. Neighboring Lotus Hall and the pond there is a pavilion decorated with carvings and flowers. The two-story stone boat and teahouse are located by the pavilion.
