    Synopsis:
    The Nutcracker is the ultimate family holiday tradition, perfect for celebrating the season. Set to Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, you will be captivated as Clara and her beloved Nutcracker battle a most memorable Mouse King, encounter dancing Snowflakes and travel to the Palace of the Dolls.

    Conductor Chen Xieyang
    Renowned conductor Chen Xieyang is Honorary Music Director of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of China National Symphony Orchestra.
     
    After graduating from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Chen was appointed resident conductor of the Shanghai Ballet Orchestra, and served as Director of the Central Opera House in Beijing. In 1982 Chen was invited to conduct the Aspen Festival Orchestra in the United States. Following his success there he was appointed the President of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.
     
    In 1991 Chen became appointed Music Director of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra – the first music director of any performing groups in Chinese history.  During his tenure at the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, he took the orchestra on an 11-city tour in the United States in 2003 and in the following year to Europe for the Sino-French Culture Year. On the occasion of the 125th Anniversary of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, he conducted the orchestra in the Berlin Philharmonie to great acclaim.
     
    He has conducted orchestras both in China and abroad, including the USA, Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Japan, Korea, the DPRK, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.  He has led the China National Symphony Orchestra on its tours in Austria, Denmark and Germany, as well as the “Chinese Culture in America” Festival at the Lincoln Center.  His concerts at the Groer Saal Musikverein of Vienna and the Lincoln Center of New York have won enormous successes.
     
    Chen’s recording of the Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto won the Gold Record prize in 1989. Since 1987 he has been listed in the Who’s Who in the World compiled by the Cambridge International Biographical Center in the United Kingdom.  Chen’s discography includes the “Complete Symphonies of Zhu Jian-er”, Compilation of “Zhu Jian-er’s Orchestral Works”, “Lv Qiming’s Orchestral Works” and “Complete Beethoven Symphonies”.
     
    Chen is now a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the People's Political Consultative Conference, vice chairman of the Shanghai Musicians' Association, member of the Standing Committee of the China Musicians' Association, and chairman of the Shanghai Symphonic Music Lovers' Society.
     
    Artistic Directors/Choreographers Ying Li / Jiabin Pan
    Jiabin Pan and Ying Li are husband and wife. Pan started his dance career at Liberation Army Dance Group in Jinan, Shandong Province, where he met Li in Beijing. They both graduated from Beijing Dance Academy in 1987 and joined the National Ballet of China as principal dancers in the same year. In 1992, they were recruited to join Ballet Met in Columbus, Ohio of the United States, before dancing with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre for twelve years until retiring from the stage in 2006. Both have received numerous international awards and recognitions, including: the 12th Varna International Ballet Competition (1986), and the 5th Osaka International Ballet Competition (1987). They were invited to perform at the 10th International Ballet Festival in Cuba (1987) and the Andersen Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark (1988). They were invited by the host of PBS Children's Education Program – Mr. Roger to be the program's guest artists. Pittsburgh Magazine honored Pan as an Outstanding Artist and the Pittsburgh Cultural Arts Foundation honored Li with an Establish Achievement Award.
     
    In 2007, Ying Li and Jiabin Pan returned to Suzhou to further their love of ballet and pursue their passion of choreography. Their creative works for Suzhou Ballet Theatre include: Double Happiness, Chopin's Poem, Dancing on Rock (2008), Su SHOW (2009), Romeo and Juliet (2010), Coppelia (2011), Legend of Beauty (2012), The Nutcracker (2013), Carmen (2014) and Cinderella (2016). Their innovative creations have received extensive recognition. In 2012, they transformed the legacy of Xi Shi, the most beautiful and mysterious woman in ancient Chinese history, into a well-acknowledged ballet production Legend of Beauty, which received funding from the China National Endowment for the Arts in 2014. Under their leadership, Suzhou Ballet Theatre is in constant innovation in creating legacy and making ballet history in China.

    著名指挥家。从上海音乐学院毕业后,曾任上海芭蕾舞团管弦乐队常任指挥、中央歌剧院院长。1982年他应邀在美国阿思本音乐节指挥音乐节乐团,大获成功。1984年出任上海交响乐团团长,1986年被任命为上海交响乐团音乐总监,成为中国文化发展史上第一位文艺院团的总监。1985年以来,陈燮阳先后赴苏联、日本、意大利、美国、英国、瑞士、韩国、朝鲜、泰国、新加坡、澳大利亚、德国、丹麦、奥地利、法国、西班牙、俄罗斯等国家和港、澳、台地区,指挥本团或当地著名乐团举办音乐会,均受盛赞。1998年1月和1999年2月,陈燮阳率中央民族乐团赴奥地利、德国、丹麦,在世界著名的维也纳金色大厅和柏林爱乐大厅,以及其他城市音乐厅举办中国新年音乐会。2000年8月,他又率中央民族乐团赴美国参加“中华文化美国行”的巡回演出,其中包括在纽约著名的林肯艺术中心举办音乐会。他带领上海交响乐团2003年在美国11个城市的巡演、2004“中法文化年”的欧洲巡演,以及2007年维也纳金色大厅的音乐会,好评如潮。特别是2004年6月20日,为庆祝上海交响乐团建团125周年,由他指挥上交在柏林爱乐大厅举行的庆典音乐会,获得巨大成功。
     
    陈燮阳指挥的小提琴协奏曲《梁祝》获得1989年中国唱片社颁发的金唱片奖,2008年荣获第六届中国金唱片奖评委会(指挥)特别奖,1987年起,他多次被选入英国剑桥国际传记中心出版的《世界名人录》。2002年,上海音乐出版社出版了由他指挥的《朱践耳交响曲集》系列唱片,2006年又出版了《朱践耳管弦乐曲集》、《吕其明管弦乐曲集》《贝多芬交响曲集》系列唱片。
     
    陈燮阳现为苏州交响乐团音乐总监、上海交响乐团名誉音乐总监、中国国家交响乐团特邀指挥、第十届全国政协委员、上海市政协委员、国家一级指挥、上海音乐家协会副主席、中国音乐家协会理事和上海交响乐爱好者协会会长。
     
    艺术总监/导演、编舞       李莹 / 潘家斌
    李莹与潘家斌毕业于北京舞蹈学院并被选入中央芭蕾舞团任主要演员。1992年应邀赴美国哥伦布市大都会芭蕾舞团工作。自1994年至2006年,担任美国匹兹堡芭蕾舞剧院男女首席主要演员。
     
    李莹与潘家斌曾多次在国内外芭蕾舞比赛中获奖。潘家斌,在1987年第二届中国芭蕾比赛中以处女作《依恋》夺得中国芭蕾史上首个优秀创作奖。李莹,于1985年美国纽约第十三届瑞士洛桑国际青少年芭蕾舞大赛中获得约翰逊基金奖第一名,成为中国芭蕾舞史上首个在国际比赛中夺冠的芭蕾舞演员;1986年,她代表中国首次参加具有芭蕾奥斯卡之称的保加利亚瓦尔纳国际芭蕾舞比赛,获青年组一等奖;次年,又在第五届日本大阪国际芭蕾舞大赛中获得成年组二等奖。
     
    李莹与潘家斌曾客席参加第十届古巴国际芭蕾舞节和丹麦哥本哈根安徒生艺术节Gala演出,受到卡斯特罗和丹麦女王的接见。2000年应美国PBS著名少儿教育节目主持人罗杰先生的邀请,成为节目客席嘉宾。2000年,为了表彰他们对匹兹堡芭蕾舞剧院所作的突出贡献,匹兹堡杂志授予潘家斌优秀艺术家称号,匹兹堡文化艺术基金会授予李莹艺术成就奖。
     
    2006年告别舞台后,李莹与潘家斌回到了家乡苏州,协助苏州文化艺术中心组建了苏州芭蕾舞团。全身心的开始了他们的芭蕾创编工作。他们致力于将芭蕾舞艺术推陈出新,力求在完美体现芭蕾舞艺术的同时,融合多种艺术风格,并不断地在中国芭蕾的创编领域寻求新的突破。
     
    他们的代表作包括:美国匹兹堡芭蕾舞剧院《弦之幻》(2002年)、匹兹堡博恩特派克大学《突变》(2005年)。芭蕾精品荟萃《舞动璀璨》、原创中国版芭蕾舞剧《罗密欧与朱丽叶》(2010年)、现代版喜剧芭蕾《人偶情缘》(2011年)、民族芭蕾舞剧《西施》(2012年)、创新鼠版芭蕾舞剧《胡桃夹子》(2013)、现代芭蕾舞剧《卡门》(2014)及2016最新公演的现代版芭蕾舞剧《灰姑娘》。
     
    作为目前中国芭蕾舞界的编导,他们的每一次创作都受到业内的极大关注。2011年,潘家斌荣获首届北京国际芭蕾舞比赛“最佳指导老师奖”,作品《绝唱》荣获“文华奖”第九届全国舞蹈比赛创作银奖。李莹受文化部指派担任文华艺术院校奖---第十届“桃李杯”舞蹈比赛评委会委员。《西施》荣获2014国家艺术基金扶持项目。在他们的带领下,苏州芭蕾舞团正在不断的创新中走出一条属于自己的发展之路。
