    Synopsis:
    The Ju Percussion Group (JPG), founded by percussionist Ju Tzong-Ching in January 1986, is the first percussion ensemble established in Taiwan. It consists of 13 talented percussionists and one composer in residence. The members possess transcendental virtuosity in playing Western percussion instruments as well as Chinese gong-drum music, and other form of Asian traditional music. This is a group devoting itself in performing, education and percussion promoting.
     
    Following the direction of Ju Tzong-Ching, the JPG has become well-known around the world for its innovative blending of East and West, traditional and contemporary. The JPG has pioneered the development of the percussive arts in Taiwan, and through its more than 100 domestic and international performances annually and reaching approximately 150,000 audiences has put Taiwan’s name on the international percussion map.
     
    Since its establishment, the JPG has performed in Asia, Europe, Australia and the America. Since 1993 the Group was joined by leading percussion ensembles from the United States, Japan, Korea, France, Sweden, Hungary, Germany, Canada, Australia and the Netherlands at Taipei International Percussion Convention (TIPC). The JPG was invited to perform at Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Dallas (Texas) and Louisville (Kentucky), U.S.A., in 2000 and 2003. The JPG collaborated with the world-famous Les Percussions de Strasbourg (France) on a cultural-exchange project, Les Douze Lunes du Serpent, premiered in December 2001. Invited by the Budapest Spring Festival, the JPG and the Amadinda Percussion Group of Hungary jointly presented the grand percussive work Stoicheia, written by James Wood, in 2002. In the same year, the JPG participated in the Beijing Music Festival in China and the year followed, the Group was invited to take part in the Chekhov International Theatre Festival. The participation in both events received great critical acclaim.
     
    朱宗庆毕业于台湾艺术专科学校(现台湾艺术大学)音乐科,随后至奥地利国立维也纳音乐院深造,师事华特·怀格(Walter Veigl)教授及维也纳爱乐前打击乐首席理查德·霍贺莱纳(Richard Hochrainer)教授。1982年获打击乐演奏家文凭,为华人世界获得该项文凭之第一人。2005年获得台湾大学管理学院高阶公共管理硕士学位。
     
    回国后担任台湾交响乐团打击乐首席,积极活跃于音乐舞台。1986年1月成立朱宗庆打击乐团,是台湾第一支专业的打击乐团,并数度赴欧、美、亚、澳等多国演出。1989年成立财团法人击乐文教基金会,专司乐团行政事务。1991年创办朱宗庆打击乐教学系统,自基础教育来推广打击乐。1993年创办「TIPC台湾国际打击乐节」,每三年举办一次,让台湾的击乐与国际交流、与世界同步。1998年创办《蓺类》杂志,希望引领更多人进入艺术生活。1999年起,每年举办「TIPSC台北国际打击乐夏令营」,提供学习打击乐的年轻学子一个多元丰富的学习管道。
     
    曾任台北艺术大学校长、音乐系教授兼主任暨研究所所长、艺术行政与管理研究所教授兼所长,以及中正文化中心主任暨改制行政法人首任艺术总监、第四届董事长、交响乐团团长。2009年担任高雄世界运动会开闭幕式总导演;2017年1月接任表演艺术中心董事长。
     
    获奖无数,曾获颁「青年奖章」、「十大杰出青年」、「金鼎奖」、「金曲奖」、「国家文艺奖」、「总统府二等景星勋章」,并由国际打击乐艺术协会(Percussive Arts Society, PAS)颁授「杰出贡献奖」、「终身教育成就奖」,以表扬他对打击乐艺术的贡献与成就。2016年获选PAS名人堂,是华人世界获此殊荣之第一人。
     
    现任朱宗庆打击乐团艺术总监、表演艺术中心董事长、台北艺术大学讲座教授、台湾艺术大学荣誉教授。
